2nd Air Division Memorial Library

Based in the heart of Norwich, the 2nd Air Division Memorial Library was convinced at the end of the Second World War by senior officers in the division. This ‘living memorial’ was not only designed as a tribute to the American service personnel, but also as an educational and friendship bridge between two nations. The Library has a lending collection of over 4000 books covering all aspects of American life and culture as well as a specialist collection devoted to the history of the 2nd Air Division. The library archive also holds a collection of papers, photographs and other material related to the 2nd Air Division.

The Swan at Lavenham

During the Second World War, the 15th century Swan pub at Lavenham became a popular venue for the US servicemen to relax, drink and socialise. An inspiring collection of signatures and other mementos adorn the walls, turning the Airmen’s Bar into a living piece of history.
